It is important to understand that this envrionmental education programme "Kids' ISO 14000" is a Programme System, and when the total system is implemented, then, the great potential of children will be deduced. Thus, the totality of the programme should be understood.

The system consists of workbooks, guide books, eco-kids instructors, training course of eco-kids instructors, teachers manuals, evaluation manuals, implementation manuals.

It is essential to have supports from educational authorities, such as the Ministry of Education as well as to have suport from Ministry of Environment, since this programme is for envrionmental education in the school, in the home, and in the region.

The financial support from many organizations, and industries as well as from the Governments is also important, particularly, to start this programme system in a country.

Here, a programme system for a country is shown. ArTech International manages network among the programme system in different countries and area, to encourage collaboration amoung the organizers and also among the children who participating this programme in each countries and area.



The best age of children to start this programme is about 10 years old.
This year is chosen for this environmental education programme from the fact, that the age for a child to start to aquire the concept of identity as a human is about 10 years old. The age to start to be independent from their family member is more or less of this age. At this point, it is quite important to learn about "self-management", by leaving the umbrella of management of adults or their family members.

For children, the programme consists of 4 levels.
Introductory Level is just for 2 weeks work in their home by use of Workbook
Primary Level is 8 weeks work in their home by use of Workbook
Middle Level is about 0.5 - 1 year work as a group on envrionmental issues in the region where they live.
Highest Level is 1-2 years to work same as the Middle Level, by collaborating with foreign partners of children.

All the works done by children is evaluated by Eco-Kids Instructors, and evaluation sheets are returned to each chiild, which encourage environmental activities of children. Eco-Kids Instructors also play important roles as advosors, and also as implementors to the cities and schools.

It is important to organize Training Courses of Eco-Kids Instructors at each area, so that each area like cities can operate this programme system by themselves.

To support teachers in the school who bring this in the class, Teachers' guidebook is prepared. Many experiences and wisdoms of the teachers who have implemented this programme in the past is contailned.

Special education tool for school teachers to learn about PDCA method for project management for children in the class has been developed as "Kids' ISO 14000 for School", and this is being tested in some schools in Japan.

International Certificates are issued to children who accomplished in the programme of Primary, Middle and Highest Level. This certificate is issued by International Committee of ArTech-International.
